What We Do
The Northern Society for Domestic Peace (NSDP) provides a safe and supportive environment for assisting women, men, seniors, teens, and kids in developing strong and healthy intimate relationships. NSDP provides support to the communities in the Bulkley Valley Lakes District, in many different capacities:

Our programs are

  • Second Stage Housing for women and their children who are beginning their life anew, on their own, with limited resources
  • Specialized Victim Assistance support for victims (all ages) of violent crimes: sexual assault, domestic abuse, and criminal harrassment. The clients of this program may or may not have reported their victimization to the RCMP, and may or may not be involved in the criminal justice system.
  • Police Based Victim Assistance support for victims of crimes such as sudden loss of a loved one or property crime. This program is unique in that it is stationed in the Smithers RCMP detachment, and works closely with the RCMP.
  • Pregnancy Outreach Program offers professional, emotional, practical and peer supports for pregnant and new mothers with babies to one year old.
  • The Strengthening Families Program is a powerful program for positive family interactions and skills development that involves the whole family. The program offers thre skills based courses: Parenting, Children's Life Skills, and Family Skills. The Strengthening Families Coordinator is responsible for the successful planning, implentation, delivery and ongoing evaluation of the program, in the communities of Smithers, Houston and Moricetown.
  • Bulkley Valley Critical Incident Stress Management Program (BVCISMP) is a team of trained volunteers that provide support to groups in the Bulkley Valley who may suffer psychological or emotional distress following a critical incident.
