NSDP provides counselling and support to seniors through various
programs. In 2001, our staff went international in sharing our rural
perspective in the development of response networks to senior abuse,
and presented at a conference in Cyprus Greece.
Our programs for seniors include:
Community Response Network
Provides community coordination and links to a designated agency
(MCFD) and network of support that assists seniors and/or vulnerable
adults through the Adult Guardianship legislation. Information,
support, referrals, assessment and intervention.
Caring Companions
Provides companion services to residents of Bulkley Lodge in Smithers.
RCMP Based Victim Services
Provides assistance to persons of all ages who have been affected
by a crime who may or may not have reported the crime to police
or be involved with the criminal justice system. Victims services
resources include information on financial and home security. This program is run out of the RCMP detachment.
Specialized Victim Services
Provides assistance to persons of all ages who are victims of sexual abuse, domestic violence or criminal harrassment. Victims may or may not have reported their victimization to the RCMP, and may or may not be involved with the criminal justice system. Emotional support,safety planning, referrals, resources, criminal justice system information, court orientation and court accompaniment are offered.
Stopping the Violence Counselling
Provides one-to-one counselling for women who have experienced violence and/or abuse in intimate relationships.
Passage Transition House
24 hour Emergency Shelter and Crisis Line (250) 847-2595 for women and their children. Staffed 24 hours a day every day of the year. Large, comfortable fully equipped home with security system, on treed, fenced, monitored, private grounds.
